In the footsteps of Hadrian's Wall: On the border of Scotland and England

Arrival by ferry at Newcastle. Then off to the north of England, crossing the Borders, the «border» between England and Scotland. This region is famous for its many abbeys. Visit the magnificent ruins of the most romantic of them all:

Make the most of the day by strolling through the grounds of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and discovering Arthur's Seat, the hill overlooking the city and the birthplace of many legends. You can also visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Originally a monastery dating back to 1128, and home to the kings and queens of Scotland since the 15th century, it is now the official residence in Scotland of the British Crown.

Step by step : Stirling

This morning, you'll set off to discover Callendar House, an impressive manor house with permanent collections tracing its history back to the 19th century. Leaving Callendar House for Stirling, you will pass through the small village of Camelon, identified among others as the site of the legendary «Camelot». The afternoon will be devoted to a visit to the famous Stirling Castle. Dating from the 16th century, it is one of the most important castles in Scotland. It was here that Wallace and King Robert Bruce held their councils of war with the local Lords.

Stages : Château de Tantallon

Today, set off in the direction of Château de Tantallon. Perched on a rocky promontory
surrounded by cliffs, this 14th-century château belongs to one of the most famous families in the world.
the Red Douglas, Earls of Angus. According to legend, Tantallon Castle is the birthplace of Camelot.
Then, the afternoon is free for you to enjoy Scotland at your leisure.

This morning, you'll head to the Northumberland coast for a breathtaking visit. Bamburgh Castle, 1500 years old and facing the North Sea, invites you to dream of adventure. After lunch, you'll continue on to the superb Alnwick Castle. Nicknamed the «Windsor of the North», it is now famous for having appeared in the Harry Potter saga, the Downton Abbey series and the films Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. You can stroll through the castle's sumptuous gardens and enjoy magic shows inspired by the famous Hogwarts wizard, as well as bird-of-prey demonstrations and archery lessons.

Stages : Lake District, Durham

Visit Durham Cathedral: Discover a jewel of Norman architecture today. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Durham Cathedral is the largest and most complete monument of the Norman period. Take the opportunity to enjoy the view from the top.
You can enjoy a breathtaking view of Durham and the surrounding area as you climb the 355 steps of the tower, which dates back to the 11th century.
The afternoon will be devoted to a visit to England's largest National Park, the Lake District. Here you can admire high mountains and breathtaking scenery. A cruise on Lake Windermere will allow you to take in all the scenery the Lake District has to offer.

You will begin the day with a visit to the town of Carlisle, which, according to legend, was the scene of the revelation of the affair between Lancelot and Guinevere. It was also here that Guinevere was condemned to death and burnt alive on a pyre outside the town. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hadrian's Wall is a stone and peat fortification dating from the 2nd century. The Romans erected it to protect the Empire from attacks by Caledonian tribes in what is now Scotland. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, much of the wall is still visible today. Take the ferry back.
