What is the climate like in Scotland?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Scotland has a temperate oceanic climate. The North Atlantic Drift moderates winters on the coasts, while summers remain cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Edinburgh, daytime highs average around 7\u00b0C in January and 19\u00b0C in July and August. Winter nights, however, often drop close to 0\u00b0C. In the Highlands, temperatures are lower, especially at higher altitudes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The climate in Scotland varies depending on the region<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The west receives significantly more rain than the east. The mountains effectively block clouds coming from the Atlantic. Fort William and the west coast are therefore among the wettest regions in the country, while Edinburgh and the east coast remain drier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The islands and coasts are also very exposed to the wind. In winter, snow often covers the peaks, particularly in the Cairngorms, where several ski resorts are located. The long nights also allow for observation of the Northern Lights in Scotland<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
