Things to do in York: the must-see attractions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

York Minster<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

York Minster is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe. Be sure to admire the Great East Window, one of the largest medieval stained-glass windows in the world. For the more adventurous, climb the 275 steps of the central tower for a panoramic view of the entire city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Shambles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

First, this medieval alleyway with its leaning half-timbered houses is the most photographed in the city. Once occupied by butchers, it now houses shops, several of which are inspired by the world of Harry Potter. Come early in the morning to see it without the crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The medieval ramparts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The city boasts the longest surviving medieval city walls in England. Their complete circuit is approximately 3.4 kilometers and can be walked freely. The section between Bootham Bar and Monk Bar also offers beautiful views of the cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jorvik Viking Centre<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the 10th century, the town was called Jorvik and was a Viking capital. This museum recreates the town as it was then, based on excavations carried out on the site itself. That's why this visit is so popular with families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
