The main items in the budget for a trip to Ireland

Accommodation

This is the biggest expense. Dublin is by far the most expensive city, especially in summer and during major events like St. Patrick's Day. However, B&Bs and guesthouses in the countryside often offer excellent value for money, including an Irish breakfast. On the west coast, availability remains limited during peak season, so book early.

Transportation

A rental car remains the most flexible way to explore Kerry, Connemara, or the Wild Atlantic Way. Be aware that they drive on the left, and the smaller roads are narrow. Also, check the insurance conditions when booking, as they vary considerably from one rental company to another. Our guide for rent a car in Ireland details the points to watch out for.

The train is well-suited for journeys between Dublin, Cork, Killarney, and Galway. Discover our suggested itineraries for travelling by train in Ireland.

The visits

Many landscapes are free, such as the Dingle Peninsula, Connemara, and most coastal paths. However, major attractions require an entrance fee. Here are a few pointers:

VisitAdult price
Book of Kells, Trinity College (Dublin)Starting from €25
Guinness Storehouse (Dublin)Approximately €25 to €35 depending on the time slot
Cliffs of Moher€15 at the ticket office, cheaper online
Dún Aonghasa Fort (Aran Islands)5 €

Prices vary: check them on official websites before your visit, such as that of Trinity College. To choose your steps, also consult our selection of Ireland's most beautiful cliffs.

Meals

Lunch in a pub is reasonably priced, and the portions are often generous. However, in the evening, restaurants in Dublin and other tourist towns are more expensive. Keep in mind that pubs in the Temple Bar district tend to be more expensive than elsewhere in the city.

The formalities

Ireland is part of the European Union and uses the euro: a valid identity card is sufficient for French travelers. Northern Ireland, however, is part of the United Kingdom. To enter, even from Dublin, you therefore need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) and British pounds. All the details are in our guide. formalities for Ireland.
