Dublin City break
Why choose a holiday in Dublin?
Dublin is often people’s first encounter with Ireland, and it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful. Here, historic monuments stand side by side with century-old pubs, students rub shoulders with buskers, and it takes just a few minutes’ walk to find yourself in a completely different atmosphere. The Irish capital is best explored at a leisurely pace, simply by letting yourself be carried from one neighbourhood to the next.
A city best explored on foot
Start your exploration in Temple Bar. Despite its reputation as a tourist hotspot, the neighbourhood retains a unique atmosphere with its colourful façades, street performers and numerous pubs. A few streets further on, the atmosphere becomes more peaceful around Trinity College. Hidden behind its historic buildings is one of the world’s most beautiful libraries, home to the famous Book of Kells.
As you continue your walk, you’ll come to Dublin Castle and then St Patrick’s Cathedral. These two sites tell much of Ireland’s history, from the Middle Ages to the present day. If you like to get to know a country before exploring it, do take the time to pop into a museum: there are plenty of them and they’re often fascinating.
A town where people take the time to enjoy life
You can’t leave Dublin without visiting the Guinness Storehouse. It’s much more than just a brewery tour; it’s an immersive experience in a national institution. On the top floor, the Gravity Bar offers panoramic views across the capital, with a glass of Guinness in hand.
If whisky is more your thing, several distilleries are also opening their doors, offering visitors the chance to discover another side of Ireland’s heritage.
A seaside getaway
When Dubliners want to get away from the city, many take the train to Howth. In just thirty minutes or so, the scenery changes completely. Cliffs replace the tower blocks, fishing boats bring the harbour to life, and the restaurants serve some of the best seafood in the country. A stroll along the coastal paths is enough to understand why this place is so popular with locals.
