Dates of Christmas markets in Scotland in 2026

Here are the dates already announced by the organizers for the 2026 season. The tourist office VisitScotland It also lists other winter events.

• Edinburgh: from November 14, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
• Glasgow, St Enoch Square: from November 6 to December 27, 2026.
• Glasgow Green, ice rink and funfair: from November 20, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
• Aberdeen, Broad Street Christmas Village: from November 12, 2026 to January 3, 2027.

Edinburgh Christmas Market

It is by far the largest and most famous in the country. It takes place in East Princes Street Gardens, at the foot of the castle, with around 70 chalets, a 46-meter Ferris wheel, and an ice rink on George Street. Entry to the market remains free, while the attractions require payment.

Glasgow Christmas Market

Glasgow, on the other hand, offers a more urban and local atmosphere. The St. Enoch Square market features stalls selling food, crafts, and mulled wine, right in the heart of the shopping streets. Entry is free.

Just a few minutes away, Glasgow Green offers an ice rink, a Ferris wheel, a funfair, and Santa's grotto. It's therefore the most suitable option for families.

Aberdeen and the Northeast

Aberdeen's Christmas Village sets up on Broad Street, featuring chalets, rides and an ice rink. It is open every day except December 25th, December 26th and January 1st.

The town, built of granite, takes on a special light under the illuminations. It is also a good base for exploring the castles of Royal Deeside and Speyside.

• Christmas at the Botanics in Edinburgh, a nighttime light show, from November 19 to December 30, 2026.

Christmas markets in Scotland: our tips

• Visit on weekdays and in the early afternoon: the sun sets around 3:40 pm in December, so the lights come on early.
• Book your accommodation several months in advance for December weekends.
• Pack warm and waterproof clothing, as temperatures often range between 3 and 7 °C.
• Travel from Edinburgh to Glasgow by train in under an hour to see two markets in the same trip.
• Finally, consider extending your stay until New Year's, as the Edinburgh market remains open until January 3rd.
