It was also here that Guinevere was condemned to death and burnt alive on a pyre outside the town. The Romans erected it to protect the Empire from attacks by Caledonian tribes in what is now Scotland. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, much of the wall is still visible today. Take the ferry back.
