Trekking along Hadrian's Wall
Why choose a Hadrian's Wall trek?
A Hadrian's Wall trek This offers an original way to discover the north of England on foot. For several days, you follow in the footsteps of one of the most famous frontiers of the Roman Empire while crossing the landscapes of Cumbria and Northumberland.
Your adventure begins in Bowness-on-Solway. From the coastal scenery of the Solway Firth, the trail gradually heads towards Carlisle. The first few sections are relatively easy, allowing you to gradually find your rhythm.
After Carlisle, the first remains of the wall become more visible. The landscape also changes. The large agricultural expanses gradually give way to hills and more undulating sections.
Le Hadrian's Wall trek The trail truly comes into its own around Birdoswald, Walltown Crags, and Cawfields. Here, the Roman wall runs directly alongside the path. Ascents and descents follow one another as panoramic views unfold across the Northumberland landscape.
However, this trip is not limited to hiking. The Roman remains encountered along the way provide a better understanding of the function of this ancient border. Villages, abbeys, and small towns also enrich the experience.
After several days in the great outdoors, arriving in Newcastle offers a striking contrast. The trail gradually descends into the Tyne Valley before reaching the city's famous quays.
A free day then allows you to explore Newcastle before continuing on to Edinburgh. This final leg adds a cultural dimension to the trip. The castle, the Royal Mile, and panoramic views of the Scottish capital provide a perfect ending to the adventure.
Thanks to the luggage transport provided between stages, you can also walk with a lighter bag.
This Hadrian's Wall trek particularly suitable for active travellers who wish to combine hiking, Roman history and great British landscapes.
