In Edinburgh, daytime highs average around 7°C in January and 19°C in July and August. Winter nights, however, often drop close to 0°C. In the Highlands, temperatures are lower, especially at higher altitudes.

The climate in Scotland varies depending on the region

The west receives significantly more rain than the east. The mountains effectively block clouds coming from the Atlantic. Fort William and the west coast are therefore among the wettest regions in the country, while Edinburgh and the east coast remain drier.

Midges, the other side of the climate in Scotland

Midges are tiny midges found mainly from late May to September, particularly in the west and the Highlands. They especially like damp and windless conditions.

However, using a suitable repellent, wearing protective clothing, and a face net will greatly reduce discomfort. Wind, in fact, remains your best ally.
