Glencoe, one of the most beautiful scenic drives in Scotland

The road through Glencoe is among the most famous landscapes in the Highlands. From Rannoch Moor, it winds its way between dark mountains, waterfalls and vast valleys.

Upon approaching the Three Sisters, several viewpoints offer opportunities to admire the panorama. Furthermore, the trails of the Lost Valley provide a wonderful chance to explore the region on foot.

Glencoe is also steeped in history. Indeed, the valley remains associated with the massacre of 1692, which pitted the Campbell and MacDonald clans against each other.

The road is accessible year-round. However, winter conditions can become difficult. It is therefore important to check the weather forecast before setting off.

The road between Fort William and Mallaig

The Route des Îles connects Fort William to the port of Mallaig. It runs alongside lochs, crosses mountains and reaches several wild beaches on the west coast.

The Glenfinnan Viaduct is the most famous stop. It is particularly known for the passage of the Jacobite steam train, often associated with the world of Harry Potter.

Next, the road continues towards the beaches of Morar and Arisaig. When the sky is clear, you can see the islands of Rum, Eigg and sometimes Skye.

Finally, Mallaig offers a pleasant break by the water. The port also provides access to the Isle of Skye or the smaller Hebrides islands.

The road from Bealach na Bà

Bealach na Bà connects the Applecross region to the west coast of the Highlands. Its name means "cattle crossing" in Gaelic.

This mountain road is famous for its tight bends and steep inclines. From the summit, the view extends over the mountains and neighboring islands.

However, Bealach na Bà is not suitable for all vehicles. It is not recommended for motorhomes, caravans, or drivers unaccustomed to narrow roads.

For a more relaxed experience, take your time and use passing places. Also, always let uphill vehicles pass whenever possible.
